Short answer: yes lots of other herbs are perhaps even more important to the healing strategy I live by..
Long answer: This is the kind of question that makes me think about how hopelessly Californian I really am. We have this horrible way of being overly specific about everything that it's hard to have a conversation with anyone around here that doesn't degrade into linguistic schematics. The first place my mind gets stuck at is the fact that cannabis can hardly be referred to as an herb, the Biblical definition of the term only applies to plants that dry completely, whereas retains a stickiness even after long cures.
After looking through the anniesremedy site I recognized a number of products that come from identical sources to the ones on the shelf here at home, although slight differences in how they might be prepared to most benefit Inflammatory Bowel conditions could alter the impact these plants have from miraculous to outright harmful.
The best example is the Aloe. I've found that "Anthraquinone-free" liquid aloe processed by distillation is a dream come true for me, after undergoing six blood transfusions in 15 months I introduced aloe and have since enjoyed 16 months transfusion-free. Cannabis couldn't have done that!
The other side to Aloe is that of all the thousands of drinkable preparations available, there is only one that meets the criteria for being able to help with IBD. Everything else seems to come with some kind of preservative, some flavoring, or worse yet hasn't had the laxative component removed so it's likely to make complications far worse even for people who have yet to become truly ill.
The next most important botanical-ally I've found for myself is WIld Oregano Oil. I didn't see this one over at anniesremedy, the company that I get it from is North American Herb and Spice. It seems to work alongside the immune system to promote anti-inflammation and fight illness directly. This is another one that I wouldn't give up if I ever had to choose between it and marijuana.
A number of herbs are generally thought of as health-promoting but can aggravate bleeding conditions to the point that any help they provide is completely negated by the fact that they cause me to lose so much red stuff. These include excessive ginger, ginseng, ginkgo, garlic, onions.. Too many to think of. That's the difficult thing with herbs and Crohn's, there are so many different type of disease progression that the herb one person uses to help them burn off extra weight is the same herb that another person could nearly bleed to death because of.
It's kind of like a mine-field, but with the right information a person can know where not to step.
Hi Seth!!!! Are you into other herbs at all?? I kind of enjoy messing around with different herbal remedies, I LOVE this site if it is something you're interested in!
That is all EXTREMELY interesting!!! I've also found different herbs to be useful in my life. I use chinese herbs in different teas and see great results. Thanx for all of the info, you'll have to keep me posted on your latest pot discoveries. LOL!
...Having a sense humor and spending all day with words like "cytotoxic" and "immunosuppressant" running through a person's mind is a complete change in direction; I suppose that going from one extreme corner to another over a distance like that builds up a lot of momentum, and by the time it gets over to "Funny" the notion has gained enough speed to actually get a sad example of natural selection like me to start laughing.
In 2002 Marijuana and Crohn's disease began the active stages for a complete takeover of the life I had once imagined for myself, and in a matter of less than eighteen months took me from seeing myself as an overachiever weeks from graduating high-school and working nearly full time to being an unemployed dropout collecting social security.
Living with widespread, inoperable Crohn's meant finding a way to survive without surgery, and marijuana is one of the few alternative treatments capable of the kind of immunomodulation required for taming the disease. After being absorbed into a Pot-Cult and living on "Church grounds" for six months in 2004 I had met the people who for themselves had discovered safe and non-toxic ways in order to isolate the plant organs containing the highest concentrations of active components, along with enough mind-control programing to assure the cult administration that after being let loose I would never be able to use any of the techniques for myself.
Eight weeks after leaving the Cult for the first time a black-out concussion brought on total amnesia and four of the following six weeks were lived as an inpatient of the Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center. It took almost three weeks to get a CT scan performed to asses the damage from the blow. Six months later I started doing resin extractions for myself.
One of the biggest pieces of work that needs to be done in our world is the normalization (NOT NORML, they are all evil jerk Lawyers on the bankroll of prohibition) of safe and effective medical marijuana use.
Fulel-less lighters are a big part of whether or not that is going to happen. So is resin extraction performed only with purified water, no chemicals whatsoever.
At the moment I am doing what I can to find out if there is a book that I can write that describes the life experiences that led to these discoveries for myself, and in turn the exact methods involved and benefits thereof. Right now I'm about six thousand words into it, and I haven't even gotten to the part when cannabis finds me.
Sharing what marijuana has become for me is a passion I am committed to.
Lol you're an unemployable crip??! Silly! I really like your sense of humor, I don't know if you consider it a sense of humor, but from what I can tell by reading your profile, I like your style, I enjoy sarcasm. :)
Or are you really, in fact, an unemployable crip?!
That's good! I am trying to get back on more often, I was so busy with school this spring semester.. But now it's SUMMER! Well, sort of, I still work full time, but I try to get on here just as much as I can. Talk to you soon! :)
