Ostomies in College

Any helpful hints or tricks for having an ostomie in college?! Or any experiences with this situation! Info would be greatly appericiated! Im off to college in about 5 months or so. yay!!

    tyler, its a procedure in which they take your intestine and put it on the outside, usually on the right side of your abdom, and they put a bag over top of it to catch the waste.  As weird as it sounds, it helped me alot.  I had an ostomy for 8 monthes, from grade 12 year, until september of my first college year.  In that one month i couldnt drink, which sucked, but i got by.  My only tips to you brittany is make sure you eat breakfast in the morning, if you start skipping, the gas will kick in around 9:30am.  Imodium is also a savior, 2 every morning with breakfast is what I needed, that way i only emptied it once at school.  other than that, just be glad you can still go to school, and just live life as normally as possible. and congrats about college :D

    Oooo I've never had an ostomy but that would be a greatttt discussion!! There are LOADS of people on the site that have ostomies!

    I don't know if this helps any, but when I had an ostomy I always put altoids in it to help with the smell. It really does work!!!! That might be helpful if you live in a dorm with public bathrooms. :)
