Its hard to get disability benifits in most places while other places its easy. Some of us have to keep fighting and fighting while others dont.Even after a doctor disables you out it is still hard.It shouldnt be that way  though.

If we don't start fighting then we get no where. This is an invisible disease and often people make too many jokes about it. And if we don't fight now, we just make it that much harder for those that come after us to fight.

I can't even try!!! I chose to stay home with my kids, before crohn's diagnosis, and because i have been out of work for so long i don't qualify for disability. Not really fair, I worked before i had my kids, but because i have stayed home with them I can't get it now that I want to go back to work and can't. I have a friend who lets me work when i'm not sick at her business, but i don't make enough a month to start my credits back! Pretty much out of luck!

I was in the same situation as Lisa. I get SSI, it's less than SSD. It varies from state to state. My state only kicks in only $30.  Other states my give more or less. I couldn't get it for my Crohn's. Finally my psychiatrist got my disability for me based on my depression. By then I was out of work long enough to not qualify for SSD. If I had only known they give right away for mental illness I would have had it long ago and double what I get now. I try to share this with anyone I meet struggling with SS. I imagine most of us have depression. Especially if you had it since childhood.  I don't know about you. But between the pain in my gut, the joint pain how can I not have horrible depression. Plus I am dealing with MENOPAUSE!!!

So if you are having problems getting benefits, go for your depression if you have it....Good Luck and God Bless

I tried in 1993 and 2001...I have worked for 23 years and I missed over 2 1/2 years throughout that time. I accept a lower paying job and didnt get to take as much schooling as I like.  We have paid thousands in dr bills of money before the pay check even comes...its hopeless for us.  They didnt help us when we are desperate why would they help me now that my drug is working. Sure it quits working eventually and I go thru the cycle of depending on someone other than myself again, but I dont see what I can do about it.

Im from the UK. I had to fight in 2001 and take them to a tribunal to get my Incapacity benefit (i was about to go in for surgery at the time). Since then I have never had problems getting back on Incapacity benefit when i have a flare up. Sadly although i was once granted High rate DLA and my health was no where as bad as it is now, i can't seem to get it now. They turn me down time after time no matter what i say.

I think it's because the Government are now focusing on getting people back to work, they have this whole new approach. They say they are focusing on what we can do and not what we cant! Thats real nice, but sadly they think every Crohn's patient is the same and probably work with several people that have Crohn's. Therefore, if they are well enough, so are we!
